PANAMA CITY, Fla., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- World No. 1 golfer Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren disclosed Monday they have divorced -- nine months after his extramarital affairs became public.

In a release posted on Woods's Web site, attorneys for the couple said the divorce judgment was entered Monday in Bay County (Fla.) Circuit Court and they will share custody of their two children.

"We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future," Woods and Nordegren said in a statement on the Web site. "While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us.

"Once we came to the decision that our marriage was at an end, the primary focus of our amicable discussions has been to ensure their future well-being. The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern."

The 34-year-old golfer's sexual indiscretions became public after a November car wreck outside the couple's home in a gated Florida community.

Woods, who has won 71 PGA Tour tournaments, including 14 majors, took several weeks off the tour while he dealt with the fallout from the sex scandal and has often struggled with his game since returning to action.

He isn't playing in this week's event but is to play in The Barclays next week.
