The 27-year-old catcher is hitting .288 with 15 homers and 45 RBI in 88 games. He has a .401 on-base percentage.

The Cubs also called up 30-year-old infielder Micah Hoffpauir from Class AAA Iowa. In three games early this month, he went 0-for-7, striking out four times.

The club optioned catcher Welington Castillo and outfielder Sam Fuld.

Chicago also named Bob Dernier the team's first base coach and said Ivan DeJesus will take over as third base coach from Mike Quade, who was promoted to interim manager with the mid-season retirement of Lou Piniella.
