MLB: Pittsburgh 2, New York Mets 1

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Lastings Milledge and Jose Tabata smacked homers Sunday and the Pittsburgh Pirates edged the New York Mets 2-1.

Milledge's blast produced a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning and Tabata went deep in the next frame, giving Pittsburgh the lead for good and allowing the Pirates to salvage one win in a three-game weekend series against the Mets.

Zack Duke (6-12) worked seven efficient innings, holding New York to one run on five hits, walking two and fanning five.

Evan Meek tossed a scoreless eighth inning and Joel Hanrahan wrapped up the Pirates' win with his second save in the ninth.

The Mets' Johan Santana (10-8) hurled a four-hit, complete-game loss. He struck out nine and yielded only four hits, walking only one in the hard-luck setback.
