MLB: Houston 2, Florida 1

MIAMI, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Hunter Pence socked an eighth-inning homer Sunday, breaking a 1-1 tie and handing the Houston Astros a 2-1 victory over Florida.

Pence reached out for a 2-1 pitch from Jose Veras (2-1) and yanked it over the left field wall with one out, providing the winning margin as the Astros salvaged one victory in a three-game set against the Marlins.

The solo shot made a winner of Wilton Lopez (5-0), who blanked the Marlins for two innings, and Brandon Lyon tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his sixth save.

Houston starter Nelson Figueroa limited Florida to one run on four hits over six innings, striking out seven.

Marlins starter Andrew Miller went five innings, yielding one run on three hits.
