MLB: Detroit 5, Cleveland 2

DETROIT, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Max Scherzer allowed one earned in seven innings Saturday, pacing the Detroit Tigers to a 5-2 victory over Cleveland.

Scherzer (9-9) held the Indians to four hits and two walks while striking out eight in notching his fifth straight strong start. Scherzer has yielded only five earned runs over 33 1/3 innings in the span.

Brandon Inge broke a 2-2 tie with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly and Don Kelly added a solo homer for the Tigers, who notched a series win in their three-game set with Cleveland.

Indians starter Josh Tomlin (1-3) gave up five runs on seven hits over six frames.
