CHICAGO, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- The Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday signed free-agent forward Fernando Pisani to a deal said to be worth $500,000 for one year.

Pisani had spent his entire seven-year career with the Edmonton Oilers, his hometown team. Injuries limited him to 40 games last season, during which he tallied four goals with eight points and was a minus-16.

The Providence College product, a defensive specialist, has racked up 80 goals and 153 points in 402 career regular-season NHL games. He is probably best-known for his breakaway game-winning goal in Game 5 of the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals against Carolina.
