SEATTLE, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Seattle Mariners outfielder Milton Bradley underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday and will miss 4-to-6 weeks, the team said.

Cincinnati Reds team physician Dr. Timothy Kremchek performed the surgery on the meniscus in Bradley's right knee, and Bradley is expected to begin rehabilitation Wednesday in Seattle.

The surgery caps a tumultuous and disappointing year for Bradley, who came to the Mariners in a trade for pitcher Carlos Silva in the off-season.

He has not played since July 26 after batting .205 with eight homers and 29 RBI in 73 games. Reports surfaced in May that Bradley had packed up and left Safeco Field during a game after being benched.

Mariners General Manager Jack Zduriencik wouldn't comment on the report, nor would he verify whether the account of the alleged incident was correct, The Seattle Times said.

Last year with the Cubs, Bradley clashed with fans, reporters and team officials, claiming the media had run him out of town and that Chicago fans had been racially abusive.
