MLB: Cincinnati 5, Florida 4

CINCINNATI, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Drew Stubbs hit what turned out to be the game-winning homer in the eighth Saturday and the Cincinnati Reds survived a shaky ninth to nip Florida 5-4.

Stubbs blasted his 15th home run of the season to give the Reds a 5-3 lead and that was just enough for closer Francisco Cordero in the ninth.

Cordero loaded the bases with nobody out before Gaby Sanchez grounded into a double play. A run scored on the play and Florida still had the tying and winning runs on base but Cordero got Dan Uggla on a pop fly to first to end the game.

It was Cordero's 31st save and protected the victory for Mike Leake (8-4).

Leake went six innings, giving up six hits and three runs to end a three-start losing streak.

Cincinnati moved into a share of the lead with St. Louis in the National League Central after the Cardinals fell to the Chicago Cubs.

Sean West (0-2) took the loss, surrendering four runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Florida went 0-for-10 with men in scoring position and left nine runners on base.
