MLB: Florida 5, Washington 0

WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Michael Stanton opened the scoring with a two-run homer Thursday and Ricky Nolasco struck out eight over six innings in Florida's 5-0 win over Washington.

Stanton's homer came in the second inning and the Marlins then relied on an outstanding pitching performance to win their fourth straight. Nolasco (13-8) allowed all six Washington hits and walked two while throwing 106 pitches.

Jose Veras, Clay Hensley and Burke Badenhop then worked an inning each, combining to retire all nine men they faced.

Livan Hernandez (8-8) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.

The Nationals have dropped five in a row.
