MLB: San Francisco 8, Chicago Cubs 7

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Andres Torres drove a bases-loaded shot to the warning track with one out in the ninth inning Thursday, giving San Francisco an 8-7 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Pat Burrell had another spectacular game for the Giants with two homers -- one of them a grand slam. He had produced the winning hit in each of San Francisco's previous two victories.

The Giants overcame an early two-run deficit, took a four-run lead on Burrell's grand slam in the fifth and then let that advantage slip away in the late innings.

San Francisco, however, got to reliever Andrew Cashner (1-5) in the ninth.

Aaron Rowand opened the inning with an infield single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Freddy Sanchez. Aubrey Huff was intentionally walked and Buster Posey drew a walk as well to load the bases.

Torres was called on to pinch-hit for pitcher Brian Wilson and blasted a drive to center on a 2-0 pitch that would likely have cleared the bases if San Francisco had needed more than one run to win it.

Torres was credited with a single, a hit that gave Wilson (3-1) the win.

Burrell has 12 homers for the season, 10 of them coming since he was acquired by the Giants two months ago.
