PHOENIX, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A former NFL player has been arrested outside an Arizona child-care center for allegedly beating the mother of his 6-year-old daughter, authorities said.
Former linebacker Mark Fields was arrested at a Tutor Time in Goodyear, Ariz. Tuesday after witnesses said he beat the woman and held her in a choke hold, The Arizona Republic reported.
The woman, Field's ex-girlfriend, was at the facility to drop off court-ordered paperwork when an argument began and Fields allegedly grabbed her by the throat and threw her to the ground, the newspaper said.
The woman, who lives in California, had bruises and visible scratches, police reports say.
Fields was booked on felony counts of aggravated assault and interference with education, and misdemeanor counts of endangerment and disorderly conduct.
Booking documents said Fields has a history of domestic violence, the Republic reported.
Fields played in the NFL from 1995 to 2004 with the New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Rams and Carolina Panthers.
