BALTIMORE, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Jeremy Guthrie allowed only one run over eight innings Sunday, lifting the Baltimore Orioles to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Guthrie (6-11) scattered six hits, walked only one and struck out four, winning for the third time in four starts and giving the O's a 2-1 lead in their four-game set with Chicago at Camden Yards.

Brian Roberts and Ty Wigginton each had two hits and an RBI and Alfredo Simon picked up his 17th save despite allowing a two-run homer to Ramon Castro in the ninth.
Mark Buehrle (10-9) was saddled with the loss, yielding 10 hits in seven innings of work.
The Chisox saw their American League Central lead over the Minnesota Twins dwindle to a half-game with the setback.
