NEW YORK, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey Wednesday collected both the National League Player and Rookie of the Month honors for July.
Posey got both nods thanks to a tremendous month in which led the NL with 43 hits and finishing third with a .417 average. He also assembled a 21-game hitting streak.
Posey smacked six doubles and seven home runs, drove in 24 runs and scored 20 times in July, becoming the first rookie to claim the NL Player of the Month award since Milwaukee's Ryan Braun in July 2007.
Colorado outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto also collected votes for Player of the Month.
