PHOENIX, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Livan Hernandez tossed seven-plus solid innings Monday and the Washington Nationals posted a 3-1 decision over Arizona.
Hernandez (8-7) surrendered only one run on five hits, walking one and fanning five to lift the Nationals to a win in the first of a four-game series at Chase Field.

Sean Burnett got his first save of the season with 1 2/3 scoreless frames to finish off the victory.
Ivan Rodriguez and Adam Dunn socked solo homers and Josh Willingham drove in Washington's other run.
Rodrigo Lopez (5-10) took the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits in seven innings.
