MLB: Cincinnati 2, Atlanta 1

CINCINNATI, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Edinson Volquez and four relievers combined on a four-hitter and Brandon Phillips hit an RBI triple Sunday in the Cincinnati Reds' 2-1 decision over Atlanta.

Volquez (2-1) survived issuing five walks in five innings, allowing only one run on three hits and striking out six in his third start back after undergoing arm surgery.

Joe Smith, Bill Bray, Nick Masset and Francisco Cordero each tossed a scoreless inning of relief, with Cordero picking up his 29th save to boost the Reds to a win in the rubber match of a three-game contest with first-place Atlanta.

Phillips knocked in Ramon Hernandez with a fifth-inning triple and then came home on an error by Alex Gonzalez to supply Cincinnati's offense.

Tommy Hanson (8-8) took the hard-luck loss for the Braves, yielding two runs in 7 1/3 innings.

Gonzalez belted a solo homer in the second for Atlanta's only run.
