NEW YORK, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Adam LaRoche homered twice and drove in six runs and Daniel Hudson delivered a strong start Sunday in Arizona's 14-1 rout of the New York Mets.
LaRoche socked his first three-run homer in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie and added another in the next frame as Arizona scored five runs to put the contest away and avoid a three-game sweep at Citi Field.
Steven Drew and John Hester added home runs and Hudson drove in a pair of runs in Arizona's 16-hit onslaught.
Hudson (1-0), making his first start with the Diamondbacks after being obtained in a trade from the Chicago White Sox, held the Mets to one run over eight innings, yielding three hits, walking one and fanning four.
Mets starter Jonathan Niese (7-5) was tattooed for seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.
