Almagro downs Gasquet for Gstaad title

GSTAAD, Switzerland, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Nicolas Almagro of Spain claimed the Swiss Open Gstaad title Sunday by drubbing France's Richard Gasquet 7-5, 6-1 in the championship match.

Almagro, the No. 2 seed, used 17 aces to post his seventh career ATP crown against just two finals losses, all of which have come on clay courts.

It was his second win in three weeks. Almagro won the Swedish Open last month after upsetting home country favorite Robin Soderling in the final.

The seventh-seeded Gasquet, who won Gstaad in 2006, was shooting for his second title of the year. He had defeated Fernando Verdasco in Nice, France, for his sixth career win in the run-up to this year's French Open.
