NEW YORK, July 24 (UPI) -- Rick Ankiel hit a two-run double and the Kansas City bullpen threw three scoreless innings Saturday, pacing the Royals to a 7-4 win over the New York Yankees.
Ankiel's clutch hit in the fourth inning pushed Alex Gordon and Wilson Betemit across the plate and gave the Royals a 5-0 advantage. Scott Podsednik (3-for-5) followed with an RBI single to score Ankiel.
Kyle Davies (5-6) picked up the win despite allowing four runs in 5 1/3 innings, while Kyle Farnsworth, Robinson Tejeda and Joakim Soria combined to shut the Yankees down the rest of the way.
Soria allowed a single and walk in the ninth but held on to record his 27th save and give the Royals their first win in a four-game series at Yankee Stadium.
Sergio Mitre (0-2) took the loss in his first start since coming off the disabled list, surrendering seven runs, five earned, on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Mark Teixeira slammed a pair of homers and drove in three runs in the Yanks' loss.
