NEW YORK, July 20 (UPI) -- Former Yankee Hideki Matsui bashed a two-run homer against his old team Tuesday and the Los Angeles Angels pounded the New York Yankees 10-2.

Matsui's seventh-inning home run extended the Angels' lead to 8-2 and Mike Napoli and Maicer Izturis each added long balls as Los Angeles rode a 14-hit attack to the take the first game of a brief two-game set at Yankee Stadium.

Napoli ended the night 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored and Izturis chipped in with three RBI for the victors.

Sean O'Sullivan (1-0) turned in an effective spot start after being recalled from the minors, allowing two runs on two hits in six innings for Los Angeles.

Yankees starter Phil Hughes (11-3) was rocked for six runs on nine hits over five rocky innings.

Nick Swisher hit a solo homer and Jorge Posada drove in the other Yankees run.
