Pennetta, Kanepi to meet in Palermo final

PALERMO, Italy, July 17 (UPI) -- No. 1 seed Flavia Pennetta and Kaia Kanepi of Estonia gained berths in the Palermo International championship round with semifinal victories Saturday.

Pennetta had little trouble with Germany's Julia Goerges, dispatching her 6-0, 6-4, in a match that took less than 70 minutes on the Country Time Club's red clay court, securing one of the finals slots.

The fifth-seeded Kanepi nailed down the other berth with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Italian wild card Romina Oprandi.

Pennetta, with nine career tour wins, has a 3-2 all-time record against Kanepi.
