MEMPHIS, July 14 (UPI) -- The Memphis Grizzlies said Wednesday they have signed Boston reserve guard Tony Allen to a multiyear contract.

The team didn't say how much it will pay Allen but there have been reports the deal would start at close to $3 million.

Allen, 28, spent his first six seasons in the league with the Celtics, averaging 7.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists coming off the bench. He shot 51 percent from the field in 54 games last season.

"We are pleased to add Tony Allen's veteran presence to our roster," Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace said. "He has become one of the league's premier defensive stoppers at the wing position, and his big game experience and championship pedigree will be very important to the growth of our team."
