MLB: Minnesota 6, Detroit 3

DETROIT, July 11 (UPI) -- Michael Cuddyer socked a two-run double, Carl Pavano hurled seven-plus solid innings Sunday and the Minnesota Twins spanked Detroit 6-3.

Cuddyer's smash in the fifth inning eluded center fielder Austin Jackson, driving in Denard Span and Delmon Young to put Minnesota ahead 4-0 and helping the Twins to salvage one game of a three-game series at Comerica Park.

Jason Kubel added a pair of hits and an RBI and Danny Valencia delivered a run-scoring double for Minnesota, which broke a four-game losing streak and went into the All-Star break at 46-42, good for third place in the American League Central.

Pavano (10-6) pitched 7 2/3 innings, yielding three runs on six hits, striking out six and walking one. Jon Rauch pitched a scoreless ninth to record his 20th save.

Andy Oliver (0-3) was tagged with the loss for the Tigers, who ended the first half at 48-38. They entered the day a half-game ahead of the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central.
