England's Webb to call World Cup final

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, July 8 (UPI) -- Howard Webb, a FIFA-listed referee since 2005, has been tabbed to be the main official for Sunday's World Cup final between Spain and the Netherlands.

Webb, 38, has already called three games in this year's tournament, including Spain's 1-0 loss to open group play. He generally works Premier League games.

Benito Archundia, from Mexico, was selected to be the referee for the third-place game between Germany and Uruguay. It will be the eighth World Cup game he has called in his career.

The Netherlands advanced to its third World Cup final with a 3-2 victory over Uruguay Tuesday. Spain advanced to its first World Cup final with a 1-0 win over Germany Wednesday.

The Netherlands and Spain play at 2:30 p.m. EDT in Johannesburg for the title. The third-place game is 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Port Elizabeth.
