The Rays used three pitchers in the ninth when the Red Sox scored a pair of runs, but Matt Garza made his first relief appearance since 2007 and got the final two outs to notch the save, giving the Rays a three-game sweep of their American League East rivals.

Tampa Bay, which leads Boston by 2 1/2 games for second place in the division, won for the seventh time in eight games.

Evan Longoria homered in the fourth to break a scoreless tie for the Rays.

Tim Wakefield (3-7) took the loss for Boston, yielding six runs in 5 2/3 innings.
