MLB: Detroit 12, Baltimore 9

DETROIT, July 5 (UPI) -- The Detroit Tigers needed Brandon Inge's four RBI and Carlos Guillen's three to win their 12-9 slugfest with Baltimore Monday.

Inge and Guillen each hit RBI singles in the second inning, combining to drive in three runs to put Detroit ahead for good at 8-6.

The Tigers went on to outlast the Orioles and claim sole possession of first place in the American League Central.

Inge and Guillen both finished 3-for-4. Miguel Cabrera chipped in with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored in the Tigers' rout.

Reliever Eddie Bonine (4-0) got the victory by allowing just one run on six hits over 2 2/3 innings. Detroit starter Andrew Oliver lasted just 1 2/3 innings, giving up six runs -- five earned.

The loss went to Mark Hendrickson (1-4), who yielded three runs over three frames after O's starter Kevin Millwood lasted only one inning, giving up five runs.
