Canizares jumps to European Tour lead

PARIS, July 2 (UPI) -- Alejandro Canizares had his second 5-under-par 66 Friday and owns a one-stroke lead halfway through the European Tour's Alstom Open de France in Paris.

Canizares' lead came despite a double bogey midway through the round. He's at 10-under 132 after 36 holes, just ahead of defending champion Martin Kaymer, who shot a bogey-free 67 and is at 9-under for the tournament.

First-round leader Robert-Jan Derksen shot even-par 71 and is in third at 8-under 134. Steve Webster (66) is in fourth another stroke back and Jyoti Randhawa (69) sits in fifth at 6-under 136.

Play was suspended for 2 1/2 hours by a thunderstorm.

Canizares played the back nine first and opened with two pars. He then posted three birdies in a four-hole span. After another par, he had a double-bogey 6 at the 17th hole, which he'd birdied Thursday.

After the rainstorm, Canizares finished with four birdies in five holes.
