MIAMI, June 27 (UPI) -- Will Venable smashed a two-run homer in the eighth inning Sunday, sending the San Diego Padres to a 4-2 victory and a series sweep of Florida.
With the score tied 2-2 in the eighth, Brian Sanches (0-1) issued a one-out single to Yorvit Torrealba and Venable followed with a blast deep into the right field stands, handing the first-place Padres their seventh win in nine games.
Venable also hit a sacrifice fly to end the day with three RBI and Chase Headley drove in the Padres' other run with a first-inning single.
Ryan Webb (3-1) was credited with the victory after blowing a lead in the sixth inning and Luke Gregerson notched his first save with a scoreless ninth.
Jorge Cantu and Emilio Bonifacio each had two hits and an RBI for the Marlins.
