Rose seeks second straight victory

CROMWELL, Conn., June 25 (UPI) -- Justin Rose, in the midst of the best stretch of golf in his career, moved four shots in front Friday after 36 holes of the Travelers Championship.

Rose won his first tournament in the United States this month at The Memorial and fired an 8-under-par 62 Friday at the TPC-River Highlands course. His 14-under 126 for two rounds established a tournament record.

"I think I'm just on a nice streak," Rose said. "I'm not getting in my way. I'm letting it happen. It's nice to not field the question 'can this be your first win.'"

Kevin Sutherland shot his second straight 65 to finish alone in second. Those tied for third at 131 included Viay Singh, Bill Lunde, first-round co-leader Charlie Wi and 50-year-old American Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin.

Rose made five birdies in a row on his second nine, the second straight day he has done so.

Rose has not played since his win at The Memorial, having failed to qualify for the U.S. Open. If he captures this tournament he will become the first player to win consecutive starts since Tiger Woods did so at last year's Buick Open and WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
