Free agent S Atogwe re-signs with Rams

ST. LOUIS, June 23 (UPI) -- St. Louis Rams free agent safety Oshiomogho Atogwe has returned to the fold with a five-year contract, the team said Wednesday.

Atogwe, probably the Rams' top defensive playmaker, started 12 games for St. Louis last season before going down with a shoulder surgery. He still racked up 82 tackles, one sack and two interceptions.

"We are excited to have O.J. back in the fold," Rams Coach Steve Spagnuolo said in a statement. "We were always hopeful for this result. We look forward to having his leadership, character and talent back on our defense."

The former Stanford Cardinal has recorded 19 interceptions in 72 career games, all with the Rams.

"I've got a lot of good friends on this team and our work together wasn't done, so I'm excited to come back and rejoin them and all the work they've done this off-season to continue to turn this around and head in the right direction to a Super Bowl," Atogwe said.
