MLB: Detroit 8, Washington 3

DETROIT, June 16 (UPI) -- Justin Verlander struck out a season-best 11 Wednesday and Brennan Boesch had four RBI in carrying the Detroit Tigers to an 8-3 victory over Washington.

Verlander (8-4) went eight innings, giving up seven hits without a walk. He won his second straight start after losing the previous two and the Tigers extended their winning streak to five games.

Boesch scored on a two-run single by Gerald Laird during Detroit's four-run second and had an RBI base hit in the third.

With two out in the seventh, Boesch delivered a three-run homer, his ninth blast of the season.

Livan Hernandez (5-4) gave up all eight runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings to take the loss. He also walked six batters and four of them came around to score.

Washington has lost four of its last five.
