Shanahan said he was "quite disappointed" the disgruntled all-pro decided not to attend a mandatory workout in light of his acceptance of the bonus money, The Washington Post reported.
Shanahan said the Redskins were willing to trade or release Haynesworth to another team if he were willing to forego the bonus, giving him until April 1 to find another taker who might pay him part or all of the money. Instead, the coach said, Haynesworth took the bonus.
"Obviously, he took the check, so I was surprised that he wasn't here today," he told the Post. "Because I thought he did make that commitment and once he took that check, that he wanted to be a Washington Redskin, that he wanted to do the best thing for the Washington Redskins to help our defense and help our football team win.
"Obviously it didn't go in that direction, so (I'm) quite disappointed."
