KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 4 (UPI) -- Jason Kendall supplied a key hit in a pair of three-run innings Friday, leading the Kansas City Royals to a 7-3 victory over Detroit.
Kendall had an RBI single during Kansas City's three-run second that put the Royals in front for good and he had a two-run base hit to finish off a three-run sixth.
Scott Podsednik scored three times in the second win in seven tries for the Royals.
Bruce Chen (2-0) pitched into the sixth inning to get the win, giving up two runs on four hits. Kansas City got to Max Scherzer (2-5) for five runs on nine hits in five-plus innings.
All the Detroit runs came on a Brennan Boesch homer in the sixth that briefly cut the Kansas City lead to 4-3.
