LOS ANGELES, June 4 (UPI) -- Troy Glaus drove in Atlanta's first two runs Thursday and the Braves survived a late comeback bid to down the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3.
Atlanta extended its winning streak to nine games and moved three in front of Philadelphia at the top of the National League East. The Braves were 6 1/2 games out of first place in the middle of May.
The Dodgers lost for the first time in five outings.
Glaus singled in a run in the first and hit a solo shot in the fourth, his 10th homer of the season.
Los Angeles trailed by four going into the eighth, but they loaded the bases with one out against eventual winner Kris Medlen (3-1).
Peter Moylan replaced Medlen and gave up a two-run single to Ronnie Belliard. A groundout by Rafael Furcal brought in the third run of the inning but Eric O'Flaherty, the third pitcher of the inning, fanned Andre Ethier to end the threat.
Takashi Saito, who saved 39 games for the Dodgers three years ago, came on in the ninth in hopes of recording his first save in an Atlanta uniform. He retired the first two men he faced and got two strikes on Russell Martin.
Saito, however, suffered an injury that forced him from the game. Jonny Venters came on and threw one pitch, striking out Martin for his first save.
Hiroki Kuroda (5-4) suffered the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits in six innings.
