MLB: LA Angels 5, Kansas City 4

KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 3 (UPI) -- Los Angeles starter Jered Weaver didn't allow a run over seven innings Thursday and the Angels survived shaky relief for a 5-4 win over the Kansas City Royals.

Weaver (5-2) allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out nine, but the Angels bullpen was touched for three hits, three walks and four runs before Los Angeles finished off its seventh win in nine games.

The Angels build a 4-0 lead off Zack Greinke (1-7). He allowed 10 hits over six innings, including a two-run Torii Hunter home run in the fifth. Kevin Frandsen and Howie Kendricks had the other RBI.

Kansas City scored twice in the eighth, with the runs charged to Kevin Jepsen. The Angels lost the shutout when Chris Getz scored on a Jason Kendall groundout and got within 4-2 on an RBI single by David DeJesus.

The Angels got a needed insurance run in the ninth when Hunter scored on Mike Napoli's sacrifice fly. Kansas City's Willie Bloomquist delivered a two-run, pinch-hit home run before Los Angeles ended the threat.
