MLB: Tampa Bay 8, Chicago White Sox 5

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., May 30 (UPI) -- Carlos Pena smashed a bases-clearing double in Tampa Bay's 4-run fourth inning Saturday, keying the Rays' 8-5 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Tampa Bay unknotted a 2-2 tie earlier in the decisive frame on Gabe Kapler's RBI groundout, and Pena then broke the contest open when he lashed an opposite-field blast off the base of the left-centerfield wall, plating Kapler, Sean Rodriguez and Carl Crawford ahead of him.

The slumping Pena had been hitting only .124 in May, going 11-for-89 for the month entering the game. His performance helped give the American League East-leading Rays only their second win in six games.

B.J. Upton homered and Evan Longoria went 3-for-5 with an RBI while Wade Davis (5-4) picked up the win after allowing three runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings.

White Sox starter John Danks (4-4) took the defeat, giving up eight runs on eight hits through four innings.

Carlos Quentin and Alexi Ramirez homered for Chicago in the loss.
