MLB: Chicago Cubs 5, St. Louis 0

CHICAGO, May 29 (UPI) -- Carlos Silva and three relievers teamed up to hurl a 4-hit shutout Saturday, boosting the Chicago Cubs to a 5-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Silva (7-0) mystified the Cards on two hits over seven innings, walking none and striking out 11 en route to becoming the first pitcher for the Cubs to start the season with seven straight wins since Dizzy Dean in 1938.

Sean Marshall, Carlos Zambrano and Jeff Stevens combined to toss two scoreless innings to finish the whitewash and give Chicago its ninth win in 13 games.

Kosuke Fukudome drove in two runs with a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly while Mike Fontenot, Marlon Byrd and Starlin Castro each had two hits and an RBI in the Cubs victory.

Adam Ottavino (0-1) made his major league debut and took the loss, surrendering four runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings for St. Louis.
