Day forges 2-stroke lead at Byron Nelson

IRVING, Texas, May 22 (UPI) -- Jason Day fired a 3-under 67 Saturday to forge into the lead after three rounds of the Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas.

The Australian used his fine performance to pass second-round co-leaders Blake Adams and Cameron Beckman and grab a 2-stroke advantage. Day stood 12-under 198 after 54 holes at the TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas.

Adams, meanwhile, shot an even-par 70 Saturday, good enough for sole possession of second place at 10-under 200, while Jeff Overton (69) finished the day third at minus-9.

He was followed by Kenny Perry (66), Tom Pernice Jr. (66) and Mark Hensby (64), all of whom had a share fourth place at 7-under 203.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old amateur Jordan Spieth -- the sixth-youngest player ever to make the cut in a PGA Tour event -- carded a 3-under 67 on Saturday, moving into a pack of players tied for seventh at 6-under 204.

Beckman had a tough day, posting a 5-over 75 and plunging into a tie for 13th at 5-under 205.
