Donald takes lead at BMW

SURREY, England, May 21 (UPI) -- Luke Donald shot his second straight 3-under 68 Friday and had a one-shot lead midway through the BMW PGA Championship.

Donald's 36-hole total of 136 gave him the edge over first-round leader Danny Willett, who shot a 72 to finish at 137. James Kingston and Ross Fisher shared second place with Willett.

Defending champion Paul Casey and Padraig Harrington were in the group tied for fifth at 138.

The tournament, one of the highlights on the European PGA Tour, is being played over the revamped West Course of the Wentworth Golf Club.

"You have to plot your way around a little bit more now," Donald said of the new look to the course. On 17 and 18 (both par-5s), you could step up there on the second shot and give it a whack and usually make a couple of fours. Now it is very hard to hit it on the green on 17, and 18 is a very difficult second shot if you go for it."

Ernie Els, who was the supervisor of the renovation at Wentworth, was tied for ninth at 139.
