FOXBOROUGH, Mass., May 18 (UPI) -- Veteran cornerback Shawn Springs was released Tuesday by the New England Patriots.
The 13-year player started eight of the 12 games he played for the Patriots last season, his first with the team. He totaled 39 tackles, one interception and four passes defensed.

Previously, Springs played for Washington from 2004 to 2008 and Seattle from 1997 to 2003.
His career totals include 701 tackles, 8 1/2 sacks, 33 interceptions, 141 passes defensed, five forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries in 169 career contests (155 starts).
New England signed offensive lineman Ted Larsen, a sixth-round draft pick, on Tuesday.
