Pinch-hitter Dexter Fowler laid down a sacrifice bunt, advancing Smith to third, and Hawpe followed with his fly to left, plating Smith with the decisive run and lifting Colorado to its third win in a four-game series with the Nationals.

Manny Corpas got his second save by tossing a scoreless ninth. The win went to Matt Belisle (1-0), who held the Nats scoreless in the eighth. Rockies starter Jeff Francis threw seven innings of one-run ball for a no-decision.

Washington starter Scott Olsen pitched well, allowing only one run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings.
