MALLORCA, Spain, May 16 (UPI) -- Peter Hanson's par on the first playoff hole was enough to defeat Alejandro Canizares and take the Iberdrola Open in Mallorca, Spain.

Hanson forced the extra hole despite a round in which he was assessed a penalty for a double-hit on a chip shot and for an unplayable lie on his back nine. He and Canizares both shot 4-under-par 66s, and each finished at 6-under 274.

During the playoff hole on the par-3 18th, Canizares led off and found a green-side bunker and Hanson responded by landing on the green more than 40 feet from the hole. Hanson put his first putt within a foot of the cup while Canizares wedged to within 6 feet.

But Canizares missed the par putt and tapped in for bogey while Hanson holed out for a par to notch his third European Tour title.

James Kingston (69) finished third at minus-2 and Christian Cevaer (65) ended at 1-under-par 279.

Third-round co-leaders Pelle Edberg and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano ended up sharing fifth with Scott Hend and Chris Wood at even-par 280.
