MLB: Kansas City 6, Chi. White Sox 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 15 (UPI) -- Mitch Maier's two-run single put Kansas City in front during a five-run seventh Friday and the Royals went on to down the Chicago White Sox 6-1.

Kansas City gave Manager Ned Yost a victory in his debut. Yost replaced Trey Hillman following the final game of a series with Cleveland on Thursday.

The Royals did not put a man on base until Jose Guillen singled with one out in the fifth against Mark Buehrle. Guillen then drove in the first run of the seventh, after which Maier contributed his two-run, go-ahead single.

Jason Kendall also had an RBI base hit in the inning and another run scored on a fielding error by third baseman Mark Teahen.

The win went to reliever Dusty Hughes (1-1), who worked the seventh. Buehrle (2-5) gave up six runs on eight hits in six-plus innings.

Chicago's only run came on an A.J. Pierzynski homer in the fifth. The White Sox have lost five out of seven.
