SON SERVERA, Spain, May 14 (UPI) -- Pelle Edberg shot a 6-under-par 64 Friday and moved into a tie for the lead halfway through the European Tour's Iberdrola Open Cala Millor Mallorca in Spain.
Edberg had seven birdies and a bogey in jumping from 24th after the first round into a share of first with James Kingston. Kingston backed up his first-round 65 with an even-par 70 and the leaders are at 5-under 135.
Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Stuart Manley each shot 2-under 68 Friday and are tied for third with Alejandro Canizares, who shot 70 in the second round.
Edberg's first-round 71 including a triple-bogey 7 at the 17th hole, where he had his lone bogey Friday.
He started the second round on the back nine with a birdie and added three birdies in the span of Nos. 13-16 before hitting problems at 17. After five consecutive pars, Edberg again had three birdies in a four-hole stretch. A par at the final hole completed the best round of the tournament so far.
Kingston was one of the few players to have a birdie at the 17th hole and he needed it to catch Edberg. Kingston had a bogey at the first hole but got back under par with birdies at 6 and 9. However, he had back-to-back bogeys at 11 and 12. His birdie at 17 left him even on the day.
