MLB: Baltimore 6, Seattle 5

BALTIMORE, May 13 (UPI) -- Luke Scott's eighth-inning grand slam boosted the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-5 victory Thursday over the Seattle Mariners.

The Orioles trailed 5-1 going into the eighth before Baltimore's Corey Patterson hit a solo home run and, four batters later, Scott hit the first pitch he saw from Brandon League (3-3) over the wall in left-center field.

Mark Hendrickson (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in picking up the win.

The Mariners wasted a strong effort from starter Felix Hernandez, who allowed one run and five hits over seven innings before League was brought in. League was charged with five runs and three hits and a walk over one inning.

Baltimore took the lead in the fourth inning on Ty Wigginton's bloop RBI single. Seattle scored three runs in the fifth when Michael Saunders singled in one run ahead of Ichiro Suzuki's 2-run home run.

The Mariners added single runs each of the next two innings on home runs by Mike Sweeney and Saunders.
