BOSTON, May 10 (UPI) -- Boston Bruins great Bobby Orr Monday unveiled a bronze statue commemorating his 1970 Stanley Cup-winning score known simply as "The Goal."
The statue of the Bruins' beloved No. 4 flying through the air following the historic goal was unveiled along the arena's West Walkway facing Boston's Causeway Street, NHL.com reported.
The Web site said Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, TD Garden President John Wentzell and several 1970 Bruins teammates such as John Bucyk and Derek Sanderson were also present at the event -- held 40 years to the day after "The Goal" against the St. Louis Blues handed the Bruins their fourth Stanley Cup.
Asked if he ever thought he'd be immortalized in a statue, Orr said, "I didn't wake up in 1970 thinking, 'Oh there's going to be a sculpture outside the TD Garden. No."
Orr cut a black-and-gold ribbon to reveal the 800-pound sculpture by sports artist Harry Weber, NHL.com reported.
