MLB: Philadelphia 5, Atlanta 3

PHILADELPHIA, May 9 (UPI) -- Placido Polanco, Jason Werth and Shane Victorino socked solo homers Sunday to help the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-3 win over Atlanta.

Polanco's second-inning blast made it 3-0 Phillies and Werth's round-tripper in the next inning boosted Philadelphia's lead to four.

After the Braves narrowed the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth, Victorino unloaded to right in the seventh for an insurance run as the Phillies took the rubber match of a three-game weekend set.

Cole Hamels (3-2) got the win despite lasting only five innings, yielding three runs on eight hits, walking four and striking out five. Chad Durbin was sterling in relief, tossing two shutout innings, and Brad Lidge got his first save of the year in the ninth.

Atlanta starter Kenshin Kawakami fell to 0-6, surrendering five runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings while Troy Glaus knocked in a pair of runs in the loss.
