WASHINGTON, May 7 (UPI) -- An eighth-inning single by Gaby Sanchez drove in the go-ahead run Friday and Florida held on to defeat Washington 4-2.
Florida halted a three-game losing streak and defeated Washington for the 29th time in 39 meetings.
Chris Volstad (3-2) allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings to get the victory. He has worked at least six innings in five of his six starts this season.
Pinch-hitter Bryan Petersen led off the eighth with a single in his first major league at-bat and moved to second when Bruney misplayed a bunt by Chris Coghlan for an error. Sanchez attempted to get down a sacrifice bunt, but after failing to do so he singled up the middle to score Petersen.
Coughlan advanced to third on the Sanchez hit and scored on a sacrifice fly from Jorge Cantu.
Leo Nunez, the fourth Florida pitcher, worked the ninth for his fifth save.
