MLB: Boston 5, Los Angeles Angels 1

BOSTON, May 4 (UPI) -- Jeremy Hermida's three-run double in the eighth broke up a tie game Tuesday and the Boston Red Sox went on to a 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

With the score tied 1-1 in the eighth, Angels reliever Kevin Jepsen (0-1) walked Adrian Beltre to load the bases with two outs and Hermida smacked a double to left, scoring three runs and staking the Red Sox to a 4-1 lead.

After Scot Shields came on to pitch, Mike Lowell drove in Hermida with a double to center, giving Boston its final margin of victory.

Jon Lester (2-2) hurled eight effective innings, allowing just one run on five hits. Jonathan Papelbon finished the game with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Angels starter Ervin Santana was sharp but earned a no-decision after tossing seven solid innings.
