Chela drops Portugal first-rounder

ESTORIL, Portugal, May 3 (UPI) -- Seventh-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela was ousted Monday in first-round play at the Estoril Open tennis tournament in Portugal.

Chela, who won the event in 2004, fell 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to Alejandro Falla. Falla was able to hold a slight edge through a more efficient first serve in the match that ran nearly 2 hours.

Marcel Granollers stopped Oscar Hernandez 6-2, 6-1 in the day's most lopsided match. Granollers won 69 percent of the points in the match and only faced two break-point situations, saving both.

Also Monday, Leonard Tavares beat Ricardo Mello 6-3, 6-3 and Arnaud Clement took a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 marathon from Igor Kunitsyn. That match took 2 hours, 53 minutes.
