NHL: Detroit 6, Phoenix 1

GLENDALE, Ariz., April 28 (UPI) -- Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk each got two goals Tuesday as the Detroit Red Wings beat Phoenix 6-1 to win their Western Conference first-round series 4-3.

The Red Wings were dominant while playing their first Game 7 on the road since 1991, getting additional goals from Brad Stuart and Todd Bertuzzi and 32 saves from rookie Jimmy Howard.

The Red Wings advanced to play the top-seeded San Jose Sharks in the conference semifinals.

The Wings got three assists apiece from Henrik Zetterberg and Brian Rafalski.

The Coyotes got their only goal from Vernon Fiddler as their season ended in front of a somber home crowd. But the team made great strides as head Coach Dave Tippett got the formerly moribund franchise into the post-season for the first time in eight seasons.
